Family from SW China reunited with long-lost son in Shanghai after 23 years of separation

Описание: A family from Guangxi in southwestern China embraces a young man in a Shanghai police station on Tuesday, all of them in tears.

The Yang family is reuniting with their long-lost son after he was taken away 23 years ago, at the age of seven.

The man, now surnamed Zhang after his foster family, is also reunited with his younger brother, whom he'd never seen again since the day he was snatched.

Zhang ended up being adopted by a family in another province. He turned to the police for help looking for his biological family and registered his DNA data in the police database against human-trafficking when he migrated to Shanghai for work in 2014. His parents also registered in 2017.

The Chinese government has long been cracking down on human trafficking and helping families reunite with their loved ones. With the help of DNA technology, more and more lost children are being found. In the first five months of 2021 alone, nearly 1,700 lost children have been found - some of them were taken away from their families over 50 years ago.
