Iraq ex president Saddam was greedy to capture Qatar.
But did you know what ?
60 years ago, Qatar was a hot, dusty desert with almost no oil.
But why does he want to capture Qatar? What is the history ? Let me explain.
Qatar was ruled under Ottomans and then British.
But they didn’t care much.
Because Qatar is very small land and desert.
Sand, sun, and suffering — no clean water, little farming, no oil power.
Just pearl diving, where men risked death to collect pearls.
In 1868, Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani got British recognition as leader.
Until 1971, their family ruled as king under British rule.
In 1971, they got freedom and named Qatar.
Even after independence, Qatar was still poor.
Saudi Arabia had oceans of oil. Qatar had a tiny oil well.
They started taking oil from the small portion and invested meaningfulling.
They made an agreement with Shell Company and started searching for oil wells in their sea.
They tried very hard but nothing was found.
Finally they found something new in the sea which was natural gas LNG.
But those days they don't have equipments to take gas and transport.
So Qatar felt like leaving this project.
Then how did they become so powerful and wealthy ?
