In the late 90's, BMG Japan did a great reissue series of legendary French Jazz Label , Vogue and Swing. The series is called,
Vogue Original LP Collection Series
They reisued many titles of Vogue and Swing. When I got these reissues, 1st thing I was amazed at is the sound quality, I mean, the original recording condition is really, really superb. Surely, cutting and pressing by Toyo Kasei at that time are also amazing. 2nd thing I was amazed is the session quality. You know, in the mid 50's up to 60's, many jazz legends in the US moved to France for seeking more opportunities since the popularity of jazz in the US at that time was diminishing. Those legends recorded like crazy in France, really...all those sessions on Vogue and Swing are just great.
Original Vogue and Swing albums were released in 10inch LPs but BMG Japan in 1997, reissued them in 12 inch LPs. Thereafter in 1998, they also released 10 inch version of the same series.
I prefer 12 inch LP reissue than 10 inch reissue...with a couple of reasons.
1. Storage issue, you know most of my collections are 12 inch LPs so, it is more orgamized to have 12 inch than small 10 inch in the shelves.
2. Dynamism of the sound. I feel 12 inch ones sound more dynamic than 10 inch. Maybe due to the cutting space on the vinyl...the sound engineer has more space to cut the grooves on the lacquer cutting them to the max easily.
Anyway, it is a great series and in case you don't know, it is better for you to dig.
