“Rice” is the middle movement of The Rice and Beans Concerto, a piece in three parts for clarinet, violoncello, and orchestra, composed in celebration of my artistic and personal relationship with the ineffable Yo-Yo Ma, using melodies, harmonies, rhythmic cells and even mixing Jazz elements as well as instruments from China, Brasil and the Afro-Cuban culture. The present version is a chamber reduction we recorded as a preview to the full orchestral work.
