Perhaps I should have titled this video " A city blonde's unsuccessful struggle with the village real estate market" or "In Search of a Decent Village Bomb Shelter". My story is briefly as follows: After the Russian missile attacks and the ensuing blackouts, I decided to buy a house in the countryside in the summer of 2023. Since my budget was quite limited, I first bought a house in Cherkasy region for $2,000. I started to renovate it with my own hands and at first I was very happy. But there were no amenities in the house and it would have cost $4,000 just to bring water to the house, so I sold the house and found a new one with running water (and a toilet inside, not outside!). The house had exterior siding and looked nice, so I didn't hesitate to buy it and start repairing it with my own hands. But as it turned out, under the beautiful cover was an old monster. The house was wooden, built after World War II, and the roof and foundation were falling apart and needed to be replaced immediately. In the summer of 2023 I thought I had bought a wonderful house at a great price. But it was a trap. Local builders roughly calculated the roof and foundation replacement on my old house and came up with a verdict of $5,000 or more. Why didn't I notice the cracked foundation and leaking roof when I bought it? It didn't even occur to me. The most important thing was that the house looked nice and had water in it. The cost of repairing this (second!) house is unrealistic for me, so I decided to sell it and find another (THIRD!) house with a solid roof and foundation. But this turned out to be impossible, as all the inexpensive houses in the countryside have been bought up by internally displaced people from the regions occupied by the Russians. So I have nothing left but to start trying to gradually renovate my old rural bomb shelter. Anyway, the village mice, of which I am terrified and which I have been unsuccessfully fighting for almost a year, approve of my idea of renovating the house). Buy nice or buy twice.
