Topic: Fruit Tree Grafting
Nearly all fruit varieties are grafted onto a genetically distinct rootstock. When you choose a variety for its flavor, harvest period, disease resistance, color, etc., you choose the grafted variety—not the rootstock. Attaching scion wood to a recommended rootstock is called grafting. This practice is recommended if homeowners want to grow apple trees in their backyard to ensure success here in Kentucky. To learn more about apple tree grafting, attend our lunch-and-learn educational program on Tuesday, March 17th. The program costs $5.00 and includes a grafted tree that participants can take home. Please note that the class is limited to 40 participants, so call and pay before the date to be counted. For more information about this program or to sign up, please get in touch with the Warren County Extension Office at (270) 842-1681.
