Earthmen land on Mars and begin to turn it into a slum. This story was originally used on "Dimension X" on September 29, 1950, and was later rebroadcast on "Monitor" in December. The program was pre-empted on September 29, 1955.
The first three expeditions to Mars left Earth in a blaze of flames, arching through the atmosphere until they became tiny specks in the telescope of Mount Pelimar. Then they vanished from sight. Prearranged landing signals flashed back to Earth, and the radios went dead. One by one, the ships disappeared, never to be heard from again. Yet the rockets continued to launch.
The fourth expedition emerged from the silent gulfs of space, descending towards the red surface of Mars and entering orbit as the order to land was given. This story, written by Ray Bradbury, is the same one performed on Dimension X and broadcast on September 29, 1950.
