Описание: From 1907 to 2003 a whistle nicknamed "Major," perched atop the boiler plant at Cannon Mills Plant 1 in Kannapolis, N.C., sounded off at 5:30 am (wake up), 6:40 am (move out), and 7:00 am (start work) for employees of the textile manufacturer. Friday, it sounded off for the first time since the plant's 2003 demolition, thanks to a little help from the Class J No. 611 steam locomotive. Our thanks to the Kannapolis History Associates and Ed Robinette, Emcee Dr. Kevin Cherry, Scott Lindsay and the crew with the Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611, and the family members of those former Cannon Mills employees that attended the sounding off of the Plant 1 whistle!
