JET Programme ALT: Tour of a Gym in Japan

Описание: Planning a trip to Japan and curious if you can bang a few reps out while you’re across the pond? Or maybe you plan on moving to Japan and you’re wondering what will happen to your sweet gains without your pristine and coveted gym back home. Or maybe you just want to know, “Do Japanese people even lift?”

Don’t worry, I’ve got your covered. This is a tour of one of the best gyms that I have been to since coming to Japan. Do note, that not all gym have facilities such as these but larger cities tend to have better gyms than in the countryside simply because of the greater population and thus higher demand for gyms.

The fact is, you won’t lose your gains no matter what kind of gym you have. It’s all about willpower, creativity, resourcefulness and consistency. Let’s get it!


Cardio Machines - treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, recumbent bikes, vertical ellipticals

Fixed Weight-Training Machines –crunch, seated rows, adductor, abductor, overhead press, seated press, seated arm curls, seated arm extension, seated leg curl, etc.

Strength: dumbbell rack (from 1kg to 34kg), barbells (10kg and 20kg), plates (1.25kg to 20kg), medicine balls, cables, power racks, smith machine, leg press, lat pull down, hyperextension bench, flat and incline bencehs, suspension straps

Other: ab bench, stretch machines, slackline, blood pressure/ heart rate monitor, scale

Amenities: sento (public bath), showers, sauna, cold bath, water fountain, vending machines, rental shoes/gym wear, rental storage lockers,

This is a gym in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture.
