The village of Warsash is situated on the mouth of the Hamble River which flows into Southampton Water. Warsash is well known for it maritime pursuits including the Maritime Academy training Merchant Seaman and Marine Engineers from all around the world.
The Hamble is also well known for its Archaeology and History. In the time of Henry V around 1418 his Flagship the Grace Dieu was moored up the river and sank there - the ship was surveyed recently by the infamous Time Team Series.
There are also still many concrete gunning placements from World War 2 on the many walks the length of river that defended the city of Southampton from German Raids..
It was Warsash from the Rising Sun Pub and Jetty seen in this clip where 6000 Allied Troops departed for D Day. In fact this entire area was a sea of military hardware and personnel at that time.
Now it is a delightful place for walking, bird watching, canoeing boating followed by a damned good Pint and Fish and Chips.....recommend Katy's Bakery in the village for a great English Breakfast!
Highly recommend Kayaking up the River to Botley, some wonderful places for picnics....and more Pubs. The Jolly Sailor near Swanwick is a well known Pub and featured in the TV Series Howards Way.
The Public Slipway seen here is a good place to launching most sizes of trailered boats. Personally I find it easier at mid to low tide for launching. One needs to get here early on a good weekend if you want a spot to park.
