Designing Gaze Visualizations for Remote Collaboration and Learning

Описание: Technological advances are improving our ability to work and learn together, even when separated by distance. However, distributed environments lack many of the rich interpersonal cues that we take for granted in co-located collaboration. For example, it is difficult to understand what a collaborator is paying attention to without a clear indication about where they are looking. In this talk, I will present my research on designing, implementing, and evaluating shared gaze visualizations, which display where remote participants are looking in a shared workspace. I describe how shared gaze visualizations can be designed to support effective collaboration and learning. I then demonstrate how gaze-based interventions can contribute to our understanding of the ways in which people coordinate and communicate in remote environments. Finally, I discuss opportunities to extend this work to include integrating other forms of non-verbal cues (e.g. facial expression) into remote environments. As well as, going beyond computer based environments to understand non-verbal cues in augmented and virtual reality environments.
