Four Year Old Deaf Girl Hear for the first time with hearing aids

Описание: Don’t let this emotional video fool you. Many of you are missing the behind the scenes. There’s no such thing as happily ever after when it comes to hearing devices. Deaf babies/toddlers would experience side effects from hearing devices. That’s something parents don’t want to listen to. It’s painful to watch my child go through this with her new hearing aids. She does take breaks with her hearing aids often. Thank God that sign language exists.

I want to bring up the fact that “deaf person hears for the first time” videos are not inspiring to the Deaf community and us because these inspiring videos are telling you all that there is a cure for hearing loss. They view Deaf people as broken and need to be “fixed.” It’s also fool parents of deaf kids with high expectations of seeing their deaf kid hear for the first time that it’s a ‘happily ever after’ moments. 🫠 this is not always true.

I don’t have a problem with people wearing hearing devices — medical professionals must stop telling people that hearing devices is the only way, Deaf people will always be deaf. This would be a hard pill for some of you to swallow. I’m done venting…

As a result, my daughter, Ev, still like to wear hearing aids. She’s obsessed with them. She knows that they give her headache. She will get used to it. We are getting her to see a speech therapist outside of school. It doesn’t mean she will learn English by listening to spoken language. She read visually in English with ASL as her primary language. When she gets older, it will be up to her to continue with her hearing aids/therapists.
