In that vast, silent expanse where the desert kept its own counsel, I started to feel like time had slipped a gear. The road stretched out like an ancient artery, the cliffs glowed with a kind of prehistoric arrogance, and every step I took on a lonely trail felt like trespassing in a world that existed long before anyone cared about gas prices or cell service. Out there, sleep-deprived and sun-baked, I ended up stripped down to the essentials: thirsty, hungry, grateful, and oddly at peace with how little the universe cared whether I made it back before dark.
