I am trying to make my first beats with my new purchase, the Akai XR20 bought second hand online. I haven’t been able to fully understand the unit, but I am learning by doing. 😊
It has only around 700 sounds and to my knowledge no possibility to upload or transfer samples to the unit. This limit forces you to be more creative. I think you also can customize the drum set to select what sounds to be played on which pads. There are preset drum sets, but I haven´t been able yet to figure out how can I select which sound from which drum set to a customized one.
