Anxiety or ADHD? The Key Difference in Your Restlessness
Your mind is racing, but is it an engine of worry or a need for stimulation? Recognizing the difference is fundamental to your well-being, because although they may feel similar, the restlessness of anxiety and the hyperactivity of ADHD are born from very different places.
The restlessness in anxiety is usually mental. It's a loop of repetitive thoughts about the future, fears, and catastrophic scenarios. The physical agitation you feel is a direct consequence of that internal storm. Your body is reacting to a danger that your mind has created.
In contrast, the hyperactivity in ADHD is a neurological need for stimulation. The mind jumps from one thought to another out of interest or boredom, and the body needs to move to release energy or, ironically, to be able to concentrate better.
How to tell them apart?
🌪️ Anxiety-related Restlessness: It's born from a "what if..." and feels like an engine of worry.
⚡ ADHD-related Hyperactivity: It's born from a need for "something more" and feels like a search engine.
