Without Burroughs' Mars series and John Carter, we would not likely have television shows like Star Trek, films like Star Wars, and such notable characters as Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, James T. Kirk, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Malcolm Reynolds.
