Missing people are identified by researching timelines of events and police reports as well as public family and friend accounts, leading up to and following their disappearance. 242,190 people were recorded as missing by police in England in Wales between 2015-2016.

A person is recorded as missing every 2 minutes. Of those, 79% who go missing will return or be found within 24 hours. 2% are found within a week, the rest have never been found.
