Sam Ard's crash early in the October 20, 1984 Komfort Koach 200 at Rockingham ended his driving career. The race was the next-to-last event of the 1984 Busch Series season, and while Ard was forced to miss the season finale at Martinsville, he nevertheless captured the championship by a stunning 426 points over Jack Ingram.
