Industry body ASSOCHAM has welcomed the tariff reduction under the India–US trade deal, stating it will significantly improve the cost competitiveness of Indian exports in the US market. ASSOCHAM President Nirmal K Minda said the new 18 percent tariff places India at an advantage over key competitors such as Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, while even major exporters like Canada and South Africa face higher duties, calling the move a major breakthrough for “Made in India” products and access to the world’s largest economy.
