Ruksin, Arunachal Pradesh: Tension continues to mount in the Ruksin sub-division of East Siang district as villagers intensify their protest against a ferro-silicon factory operated by M/s Aether Alloys LLP at the Niglok Industrial Growth Centre (IGC).
Residents from surrounding villages have strongly demanded the immediate relocation of the plant, citing severe environmental degradation and alarming health concerns allegedly caused by the factory’s operations. Protesters claim that emissions from the unit have led to deteriorating air quality, crop damage, and contamination of nearby water sources.
According to local villagers, persistent smoke and dust particles released from the ferro-silicon manufacturing process have resulted in respiratory ailments, skin irritations, and other health complications, particularly among children and elderly residents. Many have alleged that the pollution has also affected agricultural productivity, posing a threat to livelihoods in the agrarian belt.
Community leaders stated that despite repeated appeals to concerned authorities, no concrete steps have been taken to address their grievances. They emphasized that industrial development should not come at the cost of public health and environmental sustainability.
The protesters have urged the district administration and the state government to conduct an immediate environmental impact assessment and take decisive action, including shifting the plant to a location away from densely populated areas.
As demonstrations continue, the situation remains tense, with villagers vowing to intensify their agitation until their demands for relocation and stricter pollution control measures are fulfilled.
