In 1982, a 23 year old British woman left New York City to try something no woman had ever done before.
Her name was Elsepth Beard and she was attempting to ride around the world on a motorcycle.
Her journey was full of obstacles: She ran out of money in Sydney, a crash left her hospitalized in Queensland, her documents were stolen in Singapore and at one point she even had to forge documents to escape the Indian state of Punjab.
For two years her journey took her from one part of the world to the next.
Eventually, after riding 35,000 miles, Elspeth returned home to become the first Englishwoman to ride around the entire world on a motorcycle.
