2025 Cleveland mayoral election: Incumbent Justin Bibb to face challenger LaVerne Gore

Описание: Justin Bibb will look to stay in his Cleveland City Hall office for another four years as he faces off against perennial candidate LaVerne Gore in the 2025 Cleveland mayoral race in November.

Bibb and Gore were the only two people who turned in enough verified signatures from registered voters prior to the June filing deadline, per the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. According to the Charter of the City of Cleveland, this meant that the nonpartisan primary set for Sept. 9 was scrapped, and the pair instead automatically advanced to the general election on Nov. 4.

The two won't technically be alone, however, as Ricky L. Pittman also qualified for the election as a write-in candidate.

The 2025 campaign has differed sharply from the 2021 race, which saw the political newcomer Bibb elected as Cleveland's 58th mayor. After incumbent Frank G. Jackson decided not to run for a fifth term, Bibb finished atop a crowded primary field that included several big names before defeating then-City Council President Kevin Kelley in the general election by more than 20 points.

On the city's website — which was redesigned by Bibb's administration — Bibb is described as having driven "transformative change to modernize city services and uplift communities. His initiatives include the Southeast Side Promise program, a $100 million housing fund to expand affordable housing, and the RISE initiative, which reduced homicides by 36% and achieved record police recruitment."
