The Story
Many people have asked how this flashmob came to be and the background on the day.
The main thing to understand is how much of a surprise this was for so many people involved and onlookers on the beach.
Chloe, who looked amazing didn’t she?, knew just enough to get her to Coral Sea Marina in time to board Thundercat to cruise around onto the main beach at Airlie Beach our wonderful town.
At the right moment she was guided to stand and make her entrance to the world and from that point on she knew virtually nothing.
Her hubby to be, Ian, knew even less, which is normal, in that he knew he would arrive on a Jet Ski, the one on the far right as you look out to sea, and that was it.
Chloe and Ian had been asked by Debbie Savy if they wanted to get married on the beach and let us do the rest, bravely they agreed.
Now back to the surprise, to put this into context as the organiser and creator of the day I did not meet Ian until after the whole day had concluded and I met Chloe for about 2 minutes on the day prior to the wedding. This wedding was planned way before they even knew they would be a part of it.
Ian, who works as a manager for Whitsunday Jetski Tours, managed to keep it from all his workmates until he arrived to “chauffeur” one of the dancers to the beach on his Jetski for some flashmob thing which was taking place. I think the shirt pants and bow tie may have aroused some suspicion when he arrived and invited all his other 7 Jetski pilots to be his wing men and women for his wedding. Yes there were tears on the dock that afternoon.
Chloe, who had previously worked for Redcat Adventures was escorted to an apartment, provided by Accom Whitsunday and the lovely Lea Payne, in the Colonial building at the Port of Airlie where her hair and make up would be done by Loll Doll make up and Tamara Danise Hair. Time for a champagne and relax as Debbie Savy from Tropix Studio snapped away taking all the stills for the day.
Their extended family and friends (we are all family in Airlie Beach) thought they were coming to attend a birthday party and drinks at a local bar near the beach when they were greeted with a sign saying “ BIRTHDAY……we meant WEDDING!!! Grab a drink and we will see you soon” and duly left in the bar awaiting something, but what?
Then from 4:59 Ian and Chloe were in free fall and on for the ride.
The Ski’s with Ian aboard were given the signal to move, the drones and cameras suddenly there, the next 18 minutes would be wild and mesmerising.
Dancers just appeared from the boardwalk with choreography from Gypsy House Productions and many local dance schools taking part, the beach and of course the Jetski’s, things seemingly just happened, if only it was that simple.
Chloe was guided off Thundercat to the applause of all the onlookers, Ian was collected from his Ski and saw his soon to be wife for the first time.
The couple ushered between 65 dancers to receive a bouquet from Sofi & Flora Florists and a final touch up of the hair and make up as Ian is dressed in his jacket ready to marry the love of his life.
A brief yet complete ceremony expertly celebrated by Annie and the couple stunned the crowd of hundreds watching on….the couple introduce to everyone, Ian get to “Kiss the Bride” and there it is, all over……….or is it?
La Marseillaise started with the strings section and keyboard, a nice fanfare to end the day, or to start the next phase.
All you Need Is Love thundered from the speakers. Everyone looking all ways to see what could be next, Three singers enter the scene accompanying the famous track from the Beatles and in the tradition of “Love Actually” the beach came alive and loud once more.
Saxophone and Trumpets popped up on Ocean Rafting one, then immediately from Ocean Rafting two we saw Clarinets and Flutes, beach guitarists and strings all in place as the song goes along.
This is where the video strays from the live beach action, and something Chloe and Ian knew nothing about at all until we screened the video on the 6th February. Many of the dancers, musicians and helpers also knew nothing of this until the screening.
On the beach it was 137 people all doing their thing, coming off boats and Jetskis and around the beach area joining in, helpers placing L.O.V.E. signs, All you need is love boards, singing dancing.
In the video unbeknown to almost everyone was divers out on the Great Barrier Reef with lyric boards and fish and coral, CQAdventure Flights doing a complete rollover over Whitehaven Beach. A guitarist on Whitehaven Beach for the guitar solo while on the beach another guitarist was standing on top of Redcat playing live to the crowd.
And all of this was shot live in one take by Riptide Creative and the team with 7 live cameras on the beach and 2 drones in the perfect blue sky.
What a day!!! WHAT A GREAT DAY!!!
