Our understanding of the American Revolution is full of mythology…much of which is simply not true.
Today we are going to destroy one of the most persistent myths…that the war was won by buckskin shirt wearing militiamen sniping at scarlet-coated British officers from behind trees and rocks.
In popular imagination they are armed with what is now called the Pennsylvanian or Kentucky long rifle, a weapon whose accuracy, combined with the marksmanship of the colonists, is said to have won American freedom.
