If you think Vembanad is a town name… it’s not!
Vembanad is the largest lake in Kerala, stretching across Alleppey and Kumarakom — and this video is not about rushing tourist spots. It’s about slowing down, living the backwater life, and experiencing peaceful stays by the lake. 🌊🌴
This 3-day journey is all about minimal plans, maximum peace.

🗓️ Day 1 – Seafood, Paddy Fields & Beach House Sunset
We arrived near Alleppey and started our trip the best way possible — FOOD! 😍
Our first stop was the famous Aatumukham Family Restaurant, known for its authentic Kerala flavors. The seafood here was absolutely mind-blowing!
Post lunch, we drove towards our beach house stay. The journey itself felt magical — endless paddy fields, narrow village roads, coconut trees swaying in the wind, and that raw Kerala countryside vibe.
By evening, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset from our beach house, spent peaceful time walking along the shore, listening to waves, and ended the day with complete calmness.
🗓️ Day 2 – Vembanad Lake, Shikara Ride & Kuttanad
After a slow morning at the beach, we headed for a Shikara boat ride in Vembanad Lake.
🚤 About the Vembanad Shikara Experience:
Vembanad is not just a lake — it’s the heartbeat of backwater life. As we cruised through the calm waters for nearly 3 hours, we passed:
Traditional houseboats slowly drifting
Small islands and narrow canals
Villages that depend entirely on water transport
The silence of the lake, the sound of oars cutting through water, and the cool breeze make this ride deeply peaceful and cinematic.
After the boat ride, we checked into a premium traditional Kerala-style backwater resort. And guess what? We couldn’t resist going back to Aatumukham Family Restaurant for lunch again! This time we tried chicken, beef, and duck — and it was equally amazing. That’s how good the taste was!
Post lunch, we explored Kuttanad – The Rice Bowl of Kerala 🌾
Endless green paddy fields below sea level, scenic roads, and pure countryside beauty.
Then we visited the famous VTV Church - shooting spot known from Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. The real name is St. Mary’s Forane Church, Pulinkunnoo, located beautifully along the Pampa River. The Portuguese-style architecture and peaceful surroundings make it truly special.
We returned to the resort, relaxed by the backwaters, and ended the day in total chill mode.
🗓️ Day 3 – Sunrise Kayaking & Backwater Life
Our final day began with a magical sunrise kayaking session in Vembanad Lake. 🌅
Kayaking here is not just an activity — it’s an experience.
As we paddled through narrow canals:
We saw locals starting their day
School boats carrying children
Small homes built along the water
People using boats as their primary transport
The golden sunrise reflecting on the water, birds flying overhead, and the stillness of the canals made this moment unforgettable.
After kayaking, we returned to the resort, relaxed for a while, and wrapped up our 3-day slow travel experience in Vembanad.
This trip proves that travel is not always about covering many places.
Sometimes, it’s about staying in one place… and truly feeling it.
If you love peaceful stays, backwaters, Kerala food, and slow cinematic travel — this Vembanad series is for you ❤️
