Dave Denney was born on August 21, 1921 in Lafayette, Indiana. As a youngster, he took a liking to the country western tunes that his mother would sing. His mom saw his love of music and with a little help from the church, got him first guitar as a gift so he could learn to play and sing his own songs.
At just age 15, Dave joined Rube Tronson and his Texas Cowboys as a singer. It gave him good exposure to a wide variety of venues like theaters, dances, rodeos, fairs and even radio appearances. Unfortunately Rube would pass away not long after causing a disbanding. Dave headed west and toured around Texas, Utah, California and even Mexico. He was popular enough out there that by 1946, he found himself back east in New York, working at WHN radio and with a recording contract for Musicraft. He stuck around with them for a couple years and with decent sales numbers, got picked up by RCA Victor in 1948. Likewise, he would stick with Victor until December 1949. I'm not entirely sure what happens to him for a time, but Denney does pop back up with a small string of records for MGM in the mid 1950's and disappears again by 1955. Some of these releases even had Chet Atkins backing him up.
By the late 1950's and 1960's, it appears he was a country music disc jockey working at WROW in Albany, New York and even had a music show with his wife Anna Marie. He would pass away at just 51 in 1972.
This is "Weary With Worry", a tune back from Denney's early Musicraft days. It was reported that some of these early songs had him backed by jazz violinist Eddie South. I'm not sure if this is one of those tracks or not, but no matter what, it's a fun listen. The song was recorded in July or August 1946 and released around October of the same year.
