Abstract: In this talk, we will provide a crisp introduction to data protection, specifically the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. We will discuss the principles of data protection, the rights of individuals, obligations of organizations, special provisions for sensitive personal data, data transfer and storage requirements. We will also understand the intersection and role of AI on privacy. Finally, we will wrap up the talk with the impact of the act on businesses and stakeholders including penalties and consequences for non-compliance of the act.
