This is a direct and tragic continuation of the previous piece, so in opus 2, numbers 1 and 2 should be listened to in order.
(Opus 2 number 3 is next, in all its frenzy. But that's for another day.)
In Opus 2 Number 2, we find grey-yellow sulfurous skies, the smoldering ruins where a society once felt safe, now stained red with the bitterness of the meaninglessness of vengeance. In the opening motif (which repeats several times) we hear the ghostly echoes of distant church bells ringing in defiance of the desolate landscape. A child finds among the ruins, a single dandelion, and shows it to her mother (who lies motionless, eyes wide open, in eternal sleep) and she proceeds to sing herself a song and dance with her flower. Completely unable to process her reality, she creates one inside her imagination. There are sudden chords throughout the piece, such as 3:23, in which reality breaks into the little girl's happy patch of reality with shocking moments of realization, but she quickly takes shelter within her head. At about 8:39 she's sent to be with her mother, as the church bells defiantly ring. Finally, she finds the peace that this world so cruelly denied her.
Improvised in one take, as are all of my improvisations.
