In this episode of The Future Reimagined, Danny O’Malley sits down with Leonora “Leo” Russell for a candid conversation about psychedelics, policy, and spirituality in the midst of today’s psychedelic renaissance.
Leo is a Marriage and Family Therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor who left a twenty-year career in government and social services to focus on plant medicine advocacy. In 2019, she led the Decriminalize Nature Seattle effort and later co-founded ADAPT-WA, a voter-based initiative supporting psilocybin legalization and entheogen decriminalization. She also founded Entheo Society, a 501(c)(3) dedicated to community-building in the psychedelic space.
Together, Danny and Leo explore the tension between clinical and spiritual frameworks and the complexities of pursuing change through legislation. They reflect on whether political compromise represents meaningful progress or a dilution of deeper values.
Leo is currently writing and filming in Idaho for The Psychedelic Road Trip, a comedy-documentary about Dana Beal, Idaho, and the plant medicine movement, and is helping organize a plant medicine education event at the Boise Depot in February 2026.
