Thank you for stopping by to watch our automotive spray paint gun cleaning video. It doesn't matter how much or what type of gun you have. The only thing that matters, is how well you take care of the paint gun. We all know how expensive these automotive paint guns can be, but if you regularly maintain your equipment, it will continually give good results and last longer than not cleaning it.
TOOLS NEEDED:
You will need a spray gun cleaning kit. We use the Uni-ram cleaning kit and it has all the brushes you could ever need. You will also need an automotive lacquer thinner for the bulk of the cleaning. Most guns will come with a multi-too wrench but purchase one if you do not have one. We also recommend using a microfiber towel to wipe the gun down.
PROCESS:
It is definitely best to wear gloves and have a mask on because the lacquer thinner fumes are pretty strong. Get yourself your paint spray kit, we recommend the Uni-Ram kit. You want to start by taking the gun apart. We're lucky to have such an easy spray gun to work with the SATA 5000 HVLP. Remove the airhead by twisting it off just like any cap. Use the multi-wrench to remove the nozzle. Be careful not to strip the nozzle or damage it, it's one of the most important pieces to any spray gun. Lastly, remove the needle or flow regulator by unscrewing the fluid adjusting knob. Once all the pieces are out, spray or douse the parts in lacquer thinner. Use the brush to agitate any dry particles. Do not use too much pressure because you will douse it again with lacquer thinner and wipe it with a microfiber towel. Repeat this process with all the parts of the gun and the gun itself. There are small holes that are part of the gun. Use the appropriately sized needle to unclog and holes. Do not force the needles through, make sure it's the correct size. Lacquer thinner is king here, so make sure you douse it again to clean everything off. Check the gun handle as well, sometimes there will be build-up behind the handle. Once you feel you have thoroughly cleaned the gun, put it back together. Be gentle in this process and do not force anything. You do not want to break any components or more commonly destroy the tread on the parts.
