Описание: After 74 years in the saddle, our dad, Scott B. Christensen, hung up his spurs for the last time on January 05, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Scott was born on February 2, 1951, in Hooper, Utah, to Leonard Junior Christensen and Mary Ruth Bybee Christensen. The second born of six kids. They moved to their dairy farm in Fairview, Idaho when he was a young boy.
He was given a bicycle for his birthday when he turned 8, got a horse when he was 9, and never rode his bicycle again! He LOVED horses and became fast friends with anybody who owned a horse! He wanted to do something with horses that was more challenging than just loping in the field. Horse racing was exciting, but it didn’t suit him. He and his friend Ed Bowles liked working cattle with their horses and tried team roping, but when they went over to Ovid, Idaho, and tried cow cutting with Terry Hymas they were hooked!!!
It didn’t take long and Scott bought his first cow cutting horse, a sorrel stallion named War Knobby, which taught him a whole lot about the sport! He started breeding and training horses for clients and had great success with a palomino mare named Tinky’s Jessie. He won a trophy saddle and a pair of silver buckles with the Idaho Cutting Horse Association. He wanted to share his love for the sport and started the Christensen Cuttin’ Club and hosted numerous shows at his own facilities and awarded buckles to the top finishers.
Throughout his 50+ year career of horse training and horsemanship coaching, he was involved in the Utah Reined Cow Horse Association, High School Rodeo cow cutting, has served as a horse 4H leader, and has coached countless rodeo queens. He used his horses for outfitting hunting excursions with the Cottonwood Ranch in Jarbidge, Nevada for over 20 years and was involved in the Utah State University Equine Program doing mountain rides for military veterans.
From the beginning, Scott has been a huge supporter of anything horse related. Hundreds of youth and adults have gone on to compete in different associations after getting their start or after receiving help while riding in Scott’s arenas and under his instruction. Scott has spent countless hours serving and sharing his talents with us all.
Scott served in the Ohio/West Virginia LDS mission, served in the Fairview 1st Ward Bishopric, and enjoyed spending time teaching in many other callings.
Scott rarely wore shoes. Only boots for this guy! In fact, he had a pair of shoes but purposely left them at a hotel he stayed at. To his surprise, the hotel staff shipped his shoes back to him!
Scott married his wonderful wife Syndee Lee McKay on June 29, 1973, in the Logan LDS Temple. Scott and Syndee together have taught and supported all their children and grandchildren in all their many horse activities, sporting events, piano or dance recitals. Together they raised five children, one boy, and four girls: Bracken (Stephanie) Christensen, Brandi (Ryan) Gleason, Britny (Corey) Field, Brooke (Tyler) Talbot, and Bryn (Chandler) Terry. They have 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. One of his greatest joys in life was having his kids living close by.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, brother Garth Christensen, in-laws Dale and Peggy McKay, and brother-in-law Van McKay.
The family would like to thank Doctor Beckstead and FCMC Home Health and Hospice for the great care they have shown to Scott and his family.
He was welcomed into Heaven by family, special friends he dearly missed, a handful of his best dogs, and some great horses waiting to be saddled up.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. in the Fairview 1st Ward Chapel, 165 West 4800 South, Preston, Idaho. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E., Preston and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
