So what do you do if your employee is not performing?
That’s a good question. If you find yourself asking this, you’re not alone.
There’s several areas to look at and consider.
Common place people point the finger at is training. They need more or better training, or maybe your employee even indicates I was never trained on that.
Other role - If you have even a simple, decent training program, this is probably not the issue, and chances are the employee was trained on that thing.
We didn’t deliver good, clear feedback.
Possibly. Feedback could be part of the issue, but is it the delivery, or the lack of tangible, specific info to help the employee understand what’s expected of them.
The other common conclusion is that it’s not a good job fit.
That may be the case but that should be the first, or second, or even third conclusion you jump to, as this is not an effective way to use performance management.
In working with others on employee performance, I find the issue is clear expectations were never established. Expectations of what success looks like and that all employees are expected to perform at this certain level. Most often setting expectations in both quality and productivity.
