Surprisingly, even allies of the ruling DMK—VCK chief Thol Tirumavalavan and CPM state secretary P Shanmugam—have demanded strict action against the police personnel involved.

Despite public outrage, the state government has defended its record, citing drops in murder and rape cases. Officials claim prompt action was taken in high-profile cases, including the recent rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Thoothukudi.

Opposition leaders, particularly AIADMK, have criticized the government, accusing officials of data manipulation and attempting a whitewash. Following nationwide attention, the Akash Delison custodial death case has now been transferred to CB-CID for investigation.
