One thing I forgot to mention is that if you edit a .bsp in a text editor that the filesize has to be kept the same before and after or the map will be corrupt.
There's a whooooole lot of jank with this stuff I didn't get into (the 16000 unit limit for rotated brushes...), but the idea to make this video has been floating around in my head for too long, so sorry if it's incredibly hard to follow.
