Today, Papua New Guinea pauses in quiet reflection to honor the brave men and women who answered the call during World War II. They stood with courage, endured unimaginable hardship, and made extraordinary sacrifices so that future generations could live in peace and freedom. Their footsteps echoed through our mountains, valleys, jungles, and coastlines, not in search of glory, but in service to something greater than themselves. Their bravery became the foundation upon which our nation continues to stand.

As we lay wreaths and bow our heads, let us also lift our hearts with gratitude. The greatest way to honor their memory is not only to remember their sacrifice, but to live lives worthy of it, building a Papua New Guinea that values peace, unity, respect, and hope for generations to come.
May we never take our freedom for granted, and may the stories of our fallen heroes continue to inspire courage, service, and patriotism in every Papua New Guinean.
