For more than four decades, Nancie Battaglia has stood just feet away from history — camera in hand — capturing some of the most iconic moments in Olympic sports.
Her journey began at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and since then she’s documented 13 Olympic Games, specializing in fast, dangerous winter sports few photographers dare to shoot. Her work has appeared in "Sports Illustrated," "The New York Times," and "National Geographic."
Battaglia says her greatest joy has been watching athletes from her hometown grow up and reach the podium — and her biggest regret? Not photographing the “Miracle on Ice.”
This is the story of a photographer who helped define how the world sees the Olympics.
