FAILED ATTACK ON KFIRS AND MIG27B -KATUNAYAKE AIR FORCE BASE

The LTTE has attacked the airfoce base near the Katunayake International Airport north of Colombo around 12.45 a.m. today.
This is the first ever aerial attack of the Tamil Tigers.Tree people have been killed and 16 injured during the attack. A light aircraft has dropped three bombs at the hangers at the engineering section of the air base and two of them exploded while the third bomb failed to explode. The Air Force defence system has immediately activated preventing the enemy plane from making further attempts.
Although the airport was closed in the early hours today ,full operations for all incoming and out going flight are now maintainig as scheduled. Air Port Authorities said that all arrangements are in place for the security of all air passengers. The Ceylon Tourist Board has established a special counter to provide information about tourists in Sri Lanka to other countries. Further investigations are underway into the incident.
