Believe it or not, the biggest media story during my time as a British military press officer in Cyprus wasn’t a war, a fire, or an evacuation.
It was a goat.
William (Billy) Windsor, the British Army’s regimental goat, misbehaved during a parade — kicking a few soldiers, eating the wrong food, and ultimately being demoted in rank by his own regiment.
What was meant to be an internal matter exploded into a global story, appearing in over 180 newspapers worldwide, with media calls coming in from as far away as Argentina.
Sometimes the biggest stories are the ones you never see coming.
