Описание:
A prochiral centre is a carbon atom to which enantiotopic ligands are attached. Where enantiotopic ligands are the two atoms or groups in a molecule which on replacement with other group produce two or more enantiomers. e.g. in this example when two H atoms are replaced by Z they produce a pair of enantiomers. Thus two H atoms are enantiotopic ligands and the central C atom on which they are attached is known as prochiral centre.
Please note that replacement of any of H atom with Z makes the C atom as chiral (thats why name pro-chiral).
