Crescendo is a musical term. It indicates a gradual, steady increase in loudness or force. Also, it is the climactic point or moment in such an increase, a peak. Peter Weir is a virtuoso in shaping the final film scenes as the climactic points. The closing shot of Gallipoli was made in freeze frame technique. Because the protagonist is a sprinter, this freeze frame has a special symbolic value: it represents the exact moment of dying.
