Hey-hey! It’s GeeklyEDU by GeeklyHub Biology here and we’ve prepared a new video about Lac Operon for you. Today we’re going to learn about the Operon concept and what is inducible operon, structural genes of Lac Operon and functions of repressor and its inactivation. First, let’s define what the operon is. Operon is a functional cluster of genes in prokaryotes, usually controls a key character (ability to digest lactose). The Inducible operon is an operon which can be included (to function) upon presence of a substance. One more important term is a repressor protein – a protein binding of which will inhibit transcription of the operon. And most importantly - Lactose operon or lac operon is a polycistronic operon that encodes genes for lactose metabolism, in other words, it is required for the transport and metabolism of lactose.
Let’s watch our video to learn everything you should know about the Lactose Operon!
