Why Are Manchester United Called The Red Devils?

Описание: Manchester United was previously known as the Newton Heath LYR. The club later dropped the LYR from its name and started competing in the Football league First Division under the name Newton Heath Football Club. Later in 1902, the club were served with a winding up order, and then captain, Harry Stafford found 4 businessmen to invest in the club, and finally, Manchester United was officially born. In 1945, Sir Matt Busby alongside Joe Armstrong and Jimmy Murphy took charge of Manchester United and began to promote academy players into the first team. Manchester United won back-to-back titles in 1956 and 1957 with a squad averaging the age of 22 years, nicknamed the Busby Babes. Following the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, Sir Matt Busby drew inspiration from the English Ruby side Salford. They were known as the 'Le Diables Rouge' or 'The Red Devils.' And finally, in 1970, the devil joined the traditional ship on the club's badge and hence got the nickname the Red Devils.
