Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at Demco bolt on hydraulic drum brake actuator with the 4" drop, 2" ball coupler and an 8,000 pound capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, when you apply the brakes in your two vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle and with the surge brake systems, the actuator's triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, the actuator will contract, applying force to the master cylinder and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer brakes. The master cylinder right here in the back is a composite master cylinder. It's very durable and efficient.
It's a glass reinforced nylon construction to help resist rust and corrosion. It has a very large reservoir to provide increased capacity for your brake fluid and if you notice on the top of the actuator here, they use an automotive style of diaphragm cap, which will create a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of the brake fluid. On the inside of this actuator, they use an inaudible 00:01:04 lining, provides a nice, smooth operation as this actuator will telescope in and out. Now this coupler does use an easy latch coupler mechanism for a nice, simple, secure hookup and disconnect. Basically, it'll let you hook up when the latch is in the closed position, like it is now. All you have to do is just drop the coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place and I wanted to show you that I happen to pull a 2" hitch ball and just to show you, it's in the closed position.
You don't have to do any opening of it. So if you raise this up, drop it onto the ball and you can see once it drops onto the ball it'll automatically latch it into place and you're all ready to go and then to remove it, just pull on this latch at the bottom here. Open it up and it'll allow you to move it from the bottom. So it's a very simple installation. It does have the built in drop on the coupler. You can see it helps match your two vehicle height.
The breakaway right here is included. You can see it has the snap hook on this long safety cable to ensure secure connection to the breakaway lever. Basically, what your breakaway does is this will hook to the tow vehicle and in the case where your trailer will come disconnected from your tow vehicle, it'll pull this cable which will activate the lever and apply the brakes on the trailer to prevent a runaway situation. This is a heavy duty steel construction. It has a nice zinc plating to offer corrosion resistance.
It meets a 200 hour salt spray rating. This is a bolt on installation. You can see it is designed to mount to straight 3" wide trailer tongue. It does require a 1/2" by 4 1/2" grade five bolts. They are not included to install it. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this, the application is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. The ball size we mentioned it sits on is a 2" diameter ball. Gross towing weight capacity is 8,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 800 pounds. The drop is 4" and this actuator does go by the mile number of VA91. But that should do it for the review on the Demco bolt on hydraulic drum brake actuator with the 4" drop, 2" ball coupler and an 8,000 pound capacity.
