Journey through the stunning Oldman River Valley of Southern Alberta, a place where prairie, coulees, woodlands, and wetlands come together to create one of Canada’s most diverse ecosystems. Over the course of a year, wildlife filmmaker Rick Andrews documents the incredible variety of animals that call this valley home — from painted turtles, beavers, and great horned owls in spring, to pelicans, rattlesnakes, and mule deer fawns in summer, through the fiery colours of fall, and into the harsh survival of winter. Along the way, we uncover the cultural significance of the valley to the Blackfoot people, witness remarkable wildlife behaviours, and reflect on the challenges of conservation in a rapidly growing city.
This film is a celebration of Alberta’s wild heritage — and a reminder of why protecting the Oldman River Valley is vital for generations to come.
