Here is a short video of how I proceed to make my finger stones. You should know that there is a lot of waste and that it takes a lot of time but it's fun to do (if not for making 50g !)
Not every stone work the same way, some are easier than other. Sometimes on harder stones I make a notch with a dremel for the stone to follow this path. But this uchigumori is easy to work with, so no need.
