“The Red Army Detachment of Women” Model Ballet

The ballet, "The Red Army Detachment of Women" was composed collectively, inspired by Liang Xin's drama of the same name for performance by the Central Ballet Group. The ballet tells the history and victories of the Red Army Detachment of Women of Hainan Island. The music of the ballet has incorporated folk songs from Hainan, given full symphonic treatment, expanded and merged with a distinctly Soviet Socialist Realist" flavor while still managing to retain and distinct " Chinese" personality. Without question, “The Red Army Detachment of Women" has attained nearly legendary stature in the west (owing to its historic performance during Nixon’s visit to China) and can be rightly called, the " Giselle" of Revolutionary China.

1．琼花独舞，常青指路
琼花从昏迷中醒来，看见茫茫的水天一色，想起自己的身世飘零，柔婉的弦乐诉说着她心中的悲愤和无所寄寓。这时，竖琴仿佛拨动了什么，曲调透出些许温暖和明亮。然后，小军鼓带来昂扬的气概，温暖的弦乐涌起，琼花看见了红色娘子军连代表洪常青和小庞。如波涛翻滚的弦乐背景上，铜管奏响了娘子军军歌的旋律，洪常青指引琼花去投奔即将成立的红色娘子军连。

1．Wu QiongHua solo dance (from Scene One: Flying off to the Tiger' s maw, with hatred in her heart)

Following a brutal beating from the enemy commander, the heroine, Wu QiongHua slowly awakens. The gentle scoring of the strings tell of her life of wandering and sadness. As dawn breaks, the Red Army cadre Hung ChangChing and his messenger arrive. They see Wu QiongHua and help her. Then, filled with deep proletarian feeling, Hung ChangChing shows QiongHua to the Red Army base.
