Village Walk is a performance walk based in the village of Harbertonford, Devon. Rooted in everyday life, ordinary people and places and yet somehow extraordinary. The performers tell their stories and the audience are unsure if they belong to them or not. Village Walk is a fusing of histories; real, imagined, borrowed and stolen, uncovering what is hidden, merging timescapes, and layering events. It is a reflection on passing through, noticing and dwelling in a place.
Material has been sourced through conversation and walks with old friends and new, strangers to the village and locals. The core performers on the walk are two older ladies Pam Briggs and Annie Lyne, residents of the village and Emma Bush, Mary Loveday Edwards and Peter Harrison.
The audience gathers at the edge of the village at Crowdy Mill, where they are met by the village Lengthsman. From here they are led on a gentle walk approx 1hour forty five minutes long in which they will encounter stories, actions and events which are moving, intimate, curious and funny.
"The village walk was an ambitious project and the result was an unforgettable experience using powerful compositional skills to place objects, people and the attention of the audience." Dr. Tracey Warr, Lecturer, Art History & Theory, Oxford Brookes University.
Emma Bush co-founded propeller arts collective in 2003. propeller have developed a reputation for investigating place and social ecologies through performances, writing, teaching, walks, workshops and lectures. www.propelleronline.org
