If I could share one mantra for employee management, it would be: Hire slow, Fire fast.
Always make sure to spend an ample amount of time with candidates before hiring, ensure they have the right skills for the job, are a good culture fit and understand the responsibilities of the role. Even after rigorous filtering if you have hired an incompetent person, here’s how to part ways with them:
In case an employee is corrupt, give them the benefit of the doubt and check for evidence. If the employee has been dishonest, Fire them immediately.
If a hiree has mediocre skills, make sure you provide resources for training and time to learn. But, if even after your efforts you don’t see any improvements, share honest feedback and part ways gracefully.
If there’s a business issue, do everything in your power to share your employee's details and achievements with your network to help them transition.
Regardless of the case, ensure you provide the necessary feedback and part ways gracefully.
