SCS - ESD Bag Shielding Test Demonstration

Описание: In this video we discuss static shielding bags, specifically the shielding properties bags offer in protection for sensitive devices.

The main goal of static shielding bags is to protect static sensitive devices from ESD discharge that may come into contact with the bag so it doesn’t get through the bag to the static sensitive component inside.

So, how do you test to make sure your bags are performing to industry standards?

The standard we test to on shielding is S11.4. In this specification, it says that when a bag comes into contact with a discharge, the shielding layer is supposed to only allow retention of less than 20nJ of energy in the bag because of the high susceptibility of components today.

This video demonstrates how SCS performs a shielding test on our portable test kit. This is something SCS offers its customers on site or virtually to verify their ESD packaging is performing to industry standards. This test is able to identify the good bags from the bad bags.

Why would a bag fail? It may be that the bag was made with lower metal content. Or the metalized layer got damaged at some point and thus compromising the Faraday Cage the metalized layer uses to protect the contents.
