Patient Ambrose Perkins received a kidney transplant after hypertension caused kidney failure. For more information about kidney transplants, visit: http://www.barnesjewish.org/kidney-tr...
Mr. Perkins was referred to the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Transplant Center for a kidney transplant. He received his transplant in November 2005. He had an unusually good match with his living donor.
To keep his kidney functioning, Mr. Perkins will need to take anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. These medications have side effects which need to be monitored. In the first few months, Mr. Perkins required routine bloodwork every two weeks and was scene in the office every four to six weeks. He also monitors his own weight and blood pressure at home. Mr. Perkins will be closely followed indefinitely to make sure his kidney continues to function for years to come.
